Sheila Papaleo - Shattered

Sheila Papaleo - Shattered

Empty rooms, devoid of life br Ancient snapshots strewn about br Anything of value, hastily taken br While decaying memories, br Are left behind like garbage, br In piles on the floor... br Empty rooms echo silence; br Barren chambers whose only occupants br Are the ghosts of some long ago br And heart-felt sadness br Bare walls that hold recollections br Of voices raised in anger, br Of tears shed in isolation, br Of a love that somehow died... br A lifetime of accumulated treasures, br Are divided in resentment br And the winner walks away br With an armful of small, pathetic prizes br Empty rooms bear silent witness br To shattered hopes and dreams br As two battle-weary souls br Forge separate paths br With unknown destinations... br And behind they leave br The casualties of their war, br To pick up the pieces br To fill the empty rooms...
