Seán O Muiríosa - Opening Tunnel Vision

Seán O Muiríosa - Opening Tunnel Vision

Twinkling lanterns shone high br In the Johnstown night sky br In a fashion not seen for years. br At least not by me. But then again, br When do I scan the starry reaches br For those flickers of radiance? br This night I jogged thud after thud br Of tarry motorway, running fast, br Thinking deep, escaping very far. br Snow had fallen for one whole br Week now. The fields held it br Softly like a newborn baby. br A silver glimmer it was to me br At a time when no sight could have br Filled me this night with as much br Relief and human delight as this, br This wonderful sight. br Everything else kept sparkling br As if it was a snow of closure that br Had fallen. br It was then I realised I was br Emerging from a vast tunnel br br And there was light.
