Herbert Nehrlich - A Need For Words

Nothing said. But, br trailing close behind you br is my farewell, though a bit late. br And when we meet again br there will be br the uncertainty br of happy smiles at last. br br The need for words, it was br my shadow, but not yours. br And what we talked about br was always introductory. br As if the main meal br still could wait, br perhaps the guests br would break the ice, br and change the thaw br into sweet wine br to loosen stubborn tongues. br br And of the promises br expected and directed, br was there a plan br that could surpass br common convention? br br Will we, br when crossing paths br then walk together? br Make up for time br you did not have, br and would not take br on this God's earth? br Will there be wine to drink br and time to dwell, br is it the company br to fill a need? br br Creating what turned br into little 'you' br was rather easy br and perhaps coincidental. br But when you left br you tore the stuffing br out of hearts br that were br but ill-prepared br to see you part br so very soon. br br Things left unsaid, br undone, unfelt br and unbeknownst br will be my luggage br when we meet again, br my son. br Though time will drag, br as you would know, br its clumsy feet, br I'd call it Bliss br if you could send br a tiny sign.
