Uriah Hamilton - A Stranded Girl on a Friday Night

She was weeping when we met br Outside a party store br Where the lonely purchase their wine; br Her boyfriend had left her behind br All sad and lost after a fight, br Most likely, about inconsequential things. br br I picked her up, half out of human kindness, br Half to be beside a female body br Despite how red and unhappy her face. br She was a beautiful girl in a simple way, br She wore a plain flowery dress br With some charming appeal I can’t explain. br br She tried to express in broken sentences br Why she and her boyfriend were upset; br I mostly heard tears and my boyfriend this, br My boyfriend that, br I tried to act like it was as completely earth shattering br As she thought it was. br br She gave me directions to where she lived, br I drove diligently toward that destination br Without any attempts to prolong the drive br While I planned out my own strategy of a pass. br br When I finally arrived at her place, br Her face was still red but the tears had dried. br She said, “Thanks, mister, you’re a nice guy.” br She got a little closer to me and touched my hand. br I thought she might kiss me, I thought I might kiss her, br But she scooted on out and made for her house. br I wasn’t expecting any action that night, br I can’t claim disappointment. br br But I wish I knew if I should pray br For her and her boyfriend to work things out.
