Herbert Nehrlich - Twilight Thoughts

In the twilight hours br in the life of a man br when the spirit sours br as it must, 'cause it can br there comes realisation br of the yin and the yang br and the urgent sensation br that the song that he sang br through the decades of strife br and the nights full of bliss br when the meaning of life br was enshrined in a kiss br as he looks to the past br to a million decisions br and to those who were cast br in odd roles without vision. br And he takes a deep breath br as the brilliance sinks in br that the sight of one's death br and the Reaper's sly grin br wakes the force of a need br to convey to the masses br that the truth shows indeed br we are ignorant asses br though we think that we know br as we strut our stuff br and proceed with the flow br always clever and tough. br But the youngsters are like br all ignorant fools br as they say 'take a hike', br and embrace their dumb rules br seeing war as exciting br have no concept of love br act as if constant fighting br was ordained from above. br Of the three score and ten br only five are enlightened br though this talks about men br as in women a heightened br sense of softness resides. br Let us look at a mother br she's a woman who hides br not her love for another br she will patch up and mend br and at night fluff your pillow br she will walk as your friend br to the lovely old willow. br So, the gist of the thought br of my own twilight years br is that those who have fought br the occasional tears br over all the missed chances br and all the spilled hate, br over silly old dances br and pathetic debate br will have learned that a mother br is the one who will say br 'please be kind to each other, br let your world be okay.
