Pete Crowther - Spurn Light

Pete Crowther - Spurn Light

Afraid of the dark I could not be br For I had a light that shone on me. br It swept away my fears of night, br Scattered my demons and put them to flight. br br Its cheerful beam put me at ease br As it did all those who plough the seas. br The light beamed out for miles around br Preventing ships from running aground. br br Alas this light is now no more br And darkness reigns over sea and shore. br Its days are done now radar's here br To tell all ships what course to steer. br br Yet still I miss that friendly light br That brought me comfort in the night. br Sailors, too, have told me they br Were sorry when it went away. br br The lighthouse though does yet remain br Commanding views across the main. br Tall sentinel of Spurn, for me br It is a childhood memory. br br (Re-working of a poem by a friend (Sandra br Shan) recalling her childhood memories of br an operational lighthouse that is now no br longer functional) .
