Uriah Hamilton - A Different Sky Is Waiting

Uriah Hamilton - A Different Sky Is Waiting

We’ve been in the rain so long br That our eyes are sore and red; br When joy is missing, br We gaze down too long at our feet br As we slowly walk through the city, br But there must be a different sky waiting br Offering love and inspiration. br br Beneath these yellow factory skies, br Even the street lights look sadly dim, br Like our spiritual light within br Blurred by an affectionless life. br br Things began to change br When I met you in a small bar br Not far from the school where you teach; br I saw Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass br Easing out of your purse, br I knew we had to talk. br br As we spoke over drinks br In the early evening, br I felt loneliness begin to lift br Like dark persistent clouds br Being pushed aside by sunlight, br As if Walt Whitman were sending us br Prayers mingled with lilacs. br br Indeed, there is a different sky waiting, br Azure blue and dazzling, br Inviting flowers to bloom br On romantic avenues br When two people finally find each other. br br In my mind I have already seen br You smile in a summer dress br Beneath a different sky welcoming our love.
