Herbert Nehrlich - The Berlin Wall

It was the day after, br John Kennedy had br uncharacteristically loud, br shouted the unforgettable br and oft misquoted words br 'Ich bin ein Berliner', br words that echoed back br from the remnants of br a wall that had been built br with capitalist materials br and communist anger. br br Gorbatschov sat br in the Sauna of his datscha, br partaking liberally of br near-frozen Vodka, pure, br while sweating in the name br of the people and humanity. br br The loudspeaker crackled to life, br and the hiss of the water Aufguss br could not drown them out, br these historical doves, so rare. br br Later, when the actor turned prez br threw down the gauntlet, loudly, br with the flushed cheeks of anger br and righteous indignation, br 'Mr. Gorbatschov, tear down this wall', br the entire world applauded, br though some did not mean it at all. br But I do think that the wall was torn br down in its entirety, that day in the Sauna.
