Egal Bohen - A Cornish Path

Egal Bohen - A Cornish Path

Today I walked upon soft turf br Within a summers day br Where blue sky met blue sea br Midst pink green thrift br And travelled long a Cornish path br That wandered further than I thought br Steep climbs br First down br Then up I onward fought br To where I sat and watched br Wild seabirds br Wheel and cry br Beneath precipitous cliffs br O’er seas that rolled and crashed br On rocks br Thrown out like jagged fingers br Far beneath br Which br Like gigs br Did battle then with waves br For sport br To send white spume br To billow up br As sails br Set on a spar br Reminding me of ships br That sailed br The oceans br Wild and bleak br The taste of salt br A smell of tar br Then br Walking on br Enraptured deep br In these events br Eventually br I stopped br To catch my breath br And pausing br Watched br The sun br Sink slowly br In the West br br Within br My spirit knew br That moment br Then br That even br Should I see br No more br No planet br Was br More beautiful br Than this br On which br We walk br Nor Man br More fortunate br To orbit br Such a starbr br Egal Bohenbr br
