David Lewis Paget - On The Death Of My Father

David Lewis Paget - On The Death Of My Father

My brain has turned to ash, and yes, br My mouth is dust, br And love is grief, and death is br But the loss of trust; br While life is paupered, futures turn, br Feed on the past, br And dwell on words you might have… br If I’d only asked! br br No point to dwell again, but yet br I must, I will; br Was there some hint, a glimpse perhaps br You’d long distilled, br Was I so blind, insensible br And dead to grief br That death could snatch you carelessly, br Some petty thief. br br Perspectives shift, horizons narrow, br Drift my sand, br Your loss has marked my end, that shallow br Sleight of man, br What now remains of you, I am br Though poor in creed, br For what you were was love, and this br I’ve lost indeed.
