Victoria Hughes - The Old Library

Victoria Hughes - The Old Library

Books line the shelves of the old library where we used to play, br We'd steal ourselves away after school each day. br We'd look up at those gargantuan cases br And see the books looming with pictures of far away places. br br They always fascinated me so much, br I love the smell of a leather-bound book. br Full of knowledge and fantasy too, br Those books brought new worlds to me and you. br br Each day, we'd escape and go on a mission br To save the world from the grip of transmission. br We'd battle dragons and slay vampires with stakes, br We'd run through the forests and swim in the lakes. br br We'd be transported to far off worlds, br See the Gods on Mount Olympus with their golden curls. br We'd travel to the deepest regions of outer space, br But never once, did we want to leave that place. br br The old library that we used to love br Has been torn down for a new garbage dump. br Ideally located to be a new tip, br It was removed for something even less hip. br br The books have been donated to charity shops, br All separated from their coded blocks. br No longer together they are all alone, br Thank God I bought most and took them home.
