Glenn Bagshaw - Afternoon in Summer

Cloud-popping, blue-raved summer sky br with light stuck out like a tongue: br you're the gorgon's gaze br to a warm, dry earth br charmed almost stone. br For voice the sweeping laugh br of wind's your way. br Even the morning-marvelling birds br are almost crazed in the bright wideness br of your tuned world. br They cry the sun-thrilled call of: br Sky! Sky! Sky! br Wings fling in tree-tipped reach of vaulted runs br sun-dialed in time- br Inches the touch of thrifty night- br and, with thumb smudged in shadows, br snuffs out the light.
