Stanley Cooper - Waiting

Stanley Cooper - Waiting

A lesson learned in the army br Which, I’m sure, is not out of date br Was neither soothing or balmy br But was how to “hurry and wait” br br We waited in lines for our chow br Spam really not worth waiting for br Would never wait that long now br Don’t know why we waited before br br We waited in lines for our shots br From needles as long as the lines br Our arms looked like bloody ink blots br Red grapes growing out on their vines br br We wanted escape from the brass br We needed release from their clutch br We waited in lines for that pass br That pass we needed so much br br We waited in lines for inspections br Inspections of all different sorts br The doctors looked for infections br Or perhaps some imported warts br br To go to the bathroom we waited br The army then called them latrines br If you think we weren’t frustrated br You can tell that to the marines br br The private awaits his one striping br The P F C waits for his two br The corporal awaits, always griping br Complaining his third stripe is due br br The wait that was most universal br The wait that loomed very large br Was the only wait not perverse-al br The wait for our army dischargebr br Stanley Cooperbr br
