Hugh Cobb - A Christmas Thought

Hugh Cobb - A Christmas Thought

Yes, it's Christmas once again: br Commercial dance nearly done br only morning-after sales left, br unless of course you're Orthodox br then you're still caught in the insanity. br br Used to be, there was meaning; br something more to this day br something that connected us br to our own sense of divinity: br The beginning of a story br whose power changed a world... br br Now under gray skies and br w Christmas jingles on radio br and pumped muzak into every shop br Perhaps its time to slow down, to stop br & consider that old story. br br 'The power of scripture is in the story, ' br so I wrote one day. br & the power of this story br still hasn't gone away. br Just buried beneath br the weight of cheesy Christmas cards, br tinsel, dried fruitcake br & too much discarded gift wrap br nearly obscuring its meaning br which longs only br to be heard in the simple br silence of the human heart.
