Pete Crowther - St. Abune Teklehaimanot

Pete Crowther - St. Abune Teklehaimanot

A more surprising saint there’s not br Than Abune Teklehaimanot, br He is my all-time favourite saint; br There is none other quite so quaint. br br He spent his time converting kings br And once he sprouted several wings. br He was climbing down from Debre Damo br When he fell off the cliff with a cry of woe. br br His friends believed it was the end, br But then he started to ascend. br Six wings he’d grown, quick as a flash, br To save himself from a nasty crash. br br Three times round his home he flew br So all could see what he could do. br When he got old he lived in a cave, br All part of a plan his soul to save. br br In it he stood like a planted tree br And neither the sun nor the moon did see. br For years and years Abune stood there br And never sat upon a chair br br Until the day one leg fell off br This very remarkable man of the cloth. br Undaunted, Teklehaimanot br Just stood upon the other foot. br br He kept that up for seven years, br Four of them waterless, it appears. br So now you’ll see why he gets my vote, br St.
