Sheila Knowles - I was going to write you a poem

to tell you how much br I love the cup of coffee br you bring me every morning br and the way you warm my icy feet br on cold nights br br to say how much I enjoy br the nights we sit together br not saying a word br just allowing a moment for a smile br or a quick kiss br br I wanted you to know br I’m listening br even when I only seem br to nod my head br and ask you to light the fires br and bring out the trash br br I wanted my words br to be more than bills br and timetables br and the endless list br of daily chores and plans br br to show you how much br I choke on the guilt br that follows the anger br that spurts from my deviant mouth br when things, as they often do br don’t go to plan br br I wanted you to know br how I believe in us br and the future we’re still forming br to tell you how I feel br each argument brings us closer br and that nothing is easy to begin with br and that I have faith and patience br in who we can be br when the screaming matches br lose their vigour br and the battle of wits subsides br br but the words keep br getting tangled br around my fingers br and I’m just not sure br you’re ready br br to hear thembr br Sheila Knowlesbr br
