Dave Birss - Old

Dave Birss - Old

Like a paperback br With yellow pages br And a broken spine br Or a corkscrew br That’s unleashed br A staggering amount of wine. br Like some Levi’s br That look worn in br When they’re nearly worn through br Or steep stone steps br Bowed br By a billion shoes. br Like a teddy bear br Threadbare br From years of love. br Like a park bench br Polished by br The bottoms above. br Like a fork br Out of shape br From so much food eaten br Or bowling shoes br Baggy from br Too many feet in. br Like Doc Martins br With soles br In their sixth incarnation br And Play Doh br Gone grey br From repeated creation. br Like a piano, br With cracked ivory br From tickling the ears. br Like a face br Creased and crumpled br From smiling for years. br Like a doorbell br That’s faulty br From too many guests br Like a jukebox br Out of order br From constant requests. br I love things br That action br Has worn away. br I pray that br I end up br Just like that one day.
