K. Jared Hosein - (War) Mr. Rabbit and the War in the Meadow

As a scatter of dust eddied to a cloud, br I held my rifle tight, br So did the rabid crowd. br As we crept quiet along the dirt, br The grass blades swept br Past my camouflage shirt. br br They caressed and tickled my knees, br I almost laughed br But not at that, but the trees. br They danced to the wind's serenade, br So calm, while we prepared br To bring hellfire with our little charade. br br We moved, creep-crept to our next base, br We waited there br 'Til the moon and we were face to face. br We were eager to kill, bloodthirsty in the furrow, br Then we saw something, br Mr. Rabbit coming out of his burrow. br br Our eyes followed Mr. Rabbit br As he scampered across the field, br He was bathed in the moonlight, br And the wind began to yield. br He was alone out there, br Beneath the saddening moon, br We all turned our eyes to him, br The entire platoon. br br Then came two high whistles, br They came from the other side, br Two green balloons, two missiles, br Landed near Mr. Rabbit, br Had him fried. br br We are still frozen in shock, br As the fires from the meadow fall, br This isn't a war between br Us and them at all.br br K.
