Pete Crowther - Aegir: Norse God of the Sea

I am Aegir, Lord God of the Sea, br Husband of Ran, goddess of storms. br I have dominion over all the oceans br And all the waters of the Earth. br My nine daughters move the waves br At my behest. The winds of the world br Blow as I command, gale force nine br To hurricane or gentle breeze br According to my whim. Within its walls br On the ocean bed my great hall holds br All the treasures of the seas, garnered br From every sunken ship or wreck br That ever was or ever yet will be. br Gold, silver, shell of abalone, mother-of-pearl, br Jewels, chalices, drinking cups and porcelain, br Fine wines and honeyed mead br All stored within its glimmering walls. br Come taste my fabled hospitality, br I brew the finest ale that ever foamed br On land or in the sea. Come feast, eat, drink br And merry be, enjoy my hospitality, br Let your ears ring with the siren songs br Of the seals and whales and be beguiled br By the mermaids’ tales of the watery world br And the enchantment of Atlantis. br br I’m a moody god at the best of times br And I like to see my kingdom filled with people. br At the least excuse my good spouse, Ran, br Will whip up a storm and the girls will call br Up a giant wave to founder and swamp br The soundest ship afloat. Then Ran and I br Will powerfully swim with our magic nets, br By Loki blessed, to gather in drowned men br With which to fill my kingdom’s caverns, br Under the sea, yet I’ll have you know br That in my wide hall on the ocean’s bed br Below, there’s always room for more.
