Connie Webb - On being asked to comment on an eighteen year olds poems

I read the poetry br And the words are great br I like them exactly as they are. br br But society br Has this way br Of organizing our words br So we can understand br A bit better. br br And this person br Wanted to know br What I thought, br So I had to do the old thing br Teachers had to do to me br And look for the errors br In grammar br Or look for an omitted word. br br But I had to say to myself br That this is only a formality br Anyone can understand br When we leave out a word or two br Or a comma or a period br If we have even half a brain br None of that really matters. br br What really matters is what br We have to say br And this person br Said it all perfectly br Whether the apostrophes br Were in the right place or not br Didn’t really matter, br What really mattered br Was that this person br Mattered br And I hope br They keep writing.
