Rev. Dr. A. Jacob Hassler - Insignia

“Well I never fucking loved br You in the first place! ” I hurled br br At her backside as she briskly walked away br Her raincoat nipping her heels behind her br br In sudden synchronicity the chattering heads br At the bar swiveled and gawked at the lovers’ circus br br Whose boisterous tent was being unfolded before them br By two angry clowns pickled in smart clothes br br She pivoted perfectly rigid on the ball of her foot br As slowly as a jewelry box ballerina br br With teeth clenched as tight as her fists br And bored holes into my pupils with hers br br I stood rocking smugly, half shocked with myself but br Still proud I got the last word out and let the world know br br She outstretched her hand and grabbed the first item in reach - br Some nearby patron’s long island iced tea - br br And threw it in my face with a sharp pitch, br Glass and all, before she swiftly made her exit br br To the enthusiastic applause of each female in the bar br While I wiped the alcohol out of my fireball eyes br br With my tie and laughed along with the circus crowd br I think I fell in love with her all over again in that mad moment br br She had let me have the last word in the fight but br Hadn’t left first without making a statement of her ownbr br Rev. Dr. A.
