Linda Ori - Winter in Ohio

I recall the snow reaching up to my knees br Digging igloos under the overhanging drifts - br One in particular with a tunnel from the top br All the kids and the dog would slide down br The icey tunnel and land in a snowy heap; br Clinking blades on the frozen pond br Spinning spirals under the sparkling snowflakes br Reflected off the spotlight shining like a beacon br From the roof of the neighbor's house on the hill; br Hickory smoke rising from the bonfire br Holding the chill at bay and warming stinging fingers br Waiting anxiously for that warm mug of cider br To warm frozen lips and frosty breath; br Musical voices tinkling on the crisp air - br A shrill cry from a wayward skater br Running headlong into a snowbank br With a thud, and a plume of white powder br A wild toboggan swooshing over the hillside br Slaps the ice and dumps its cargo br In a laughing heap of arms and legs; br A chain of sleds tied together into a train br Snakes its way down the same hillside br Nearly running over the victims at the bottom. br Bright stars and the rising yellow moon br And a loud whistle off in the distance br Signals time to come home for a mug of hot soup br And a warm shower to thaw frosty fingers and toes; br Warm comforters piled high on the beds br Beckon weary, red nosed children to climb in, br Snuggle up and drift off to dreamland. br Tomorrow is another day...........................
