Jasbir Chatterjee - The Delhi Metro

Jasbir Chatterjee - The Delhi Metro

The doors slid open br And I stepped in… br What a great relief it was br To be so far away br From the madding crowds, br The smoke and the chaotic traffic, br The rashly driven blueline buses, br The stray cattle on the roads… br br The doors closed br And the train started gliding… br What a great relief it was br To be so far away br From the scorching heat, br The terribly long power cuts, br The little, gnawing worries, br The daily drudgery of existence… br br I spotted a vacant seat br And I sat down… br What a great relief it was br To see br Everything so spotlessly clean; br Not a single scratch, br Not a single speck of dust, br Not a single perverted message br Scratched on the walls… br br I relaxed br And I began to daydream… br What a great relief it was br To let br My thoughts wander br Like naughty, restless children br Swing up into the sky, br Ride on the clouds br Run on the green grass… br br The train stopped br And I woke up with a start… br What a great shock it was br To find br I had reached my “stop.
