Angela Davis - Who Am I

Angela Davis - Who Am I

Who am I br I don't know br I know what I am, br what labels others apply to me br br I am human br or so they say br But tell me something br what is so humane about our species br something found in no others, something humane br br I am a lesbian br Yes, a lover of women br but I now choose very selectively br though weary of trust, I am starved for love br br I am a crone br Old, and withered by life br I feel so aged, and weary at times br I am sickened by what I see that others do not br Even though I seldom see what is right in front of me br br I am a child br I look about myself in wonder br society constantly baffles my mind br I find happiness in the small things of life br I have experienced so little, but seen so much br I still believe in love, so naive in matters of the heart br br I am an author br I write many stories br of loving, living, understanding br though I do not yet understand these things br br I am a poet br at least that is what i am told br My pen hardly touches the paper br and I think of what's important, in my heart br My feelings flow freely in verse and sometimes not br br I am a pacifist br I abhor anger, and violence br it destroys love, lives, and souls br I think there is always a peaceful solution br if one is willing to search their heart and soul br Though it may be harder, let go of your pride and try br br I am a survivor br Many battles I have faced br Somehow I always come out of them br but never whole, for it is not that simple br Along the way I have had to make sacrifices br but here I stand, in quiet defiance and always will br Though I am tattered, battered, and occasionally shattered br br Who am I br I think above all br I am an individualbr br Angela Davisbr br
