jeannetta harris - A Mothers Pain

I see him struggle-trying to get the words out br The pain the frustration unable to convey his thoughts br The angry outbursts-the depression -the anxiety br Ridiculed shunned always the outcast-the scapegoat br Stumbling in the dark looking for a faint glimmer of light br Ashamed to try - I can’t do it is his first response br With step by step instructions -and a little coaxing br Hesitant at first -he does-he fails-he tries again br All the while he knows- I am there by his side br Ready to lend a helping hand-to cushion his fall br I have seen the pain in his eyes—the tears on his cheeks br Asking why me --struggling to understand br br How does a mother explain to her child br How can I help him to understand his illness br It is I who now struggles to find the words br Longing to see smiles instead of frowns br Fighting to get back my bouncing baby boy br I know the child he once was is in there br Lost in the dark abyss of his mind br Till then I will be here waiting- lantern in hand br Knowing he will find his way out of the darkness br Only to stand tall and bask in the lightbr br jeannetta harrisbr br
