Pete Crowther - The Wisdom of Yodit; or, Why I am giving up writing poetry

(“I don’t want to be a poet br and I don’t enjoy reading poems. br I read them when I feel boringness br to feel more boring and get to sleep” — Yodit) br br Young Yodit has said it: br ‘All poetry is boring’ br So it does us no credit br What we’ve been ignoring. br br The true use of verse br Is not to uplift, br Or inspire, which is worse; br It’s to make people drift, br br Bored to death, into sleep br With monotonous writing br That makes counting sheep br Seem far too exciting. br br So thank you, young Yodit, br For putting us right. br From now on it’s “Sod it! ” br No more shall I write.
