K. Jared Hosein - (War) A Game of Basketball in the Third World

An incensed sun in the conflagrant heaven br Signals that the sky belongs to Diablo today br The sand pebbles shift along the hard outdoors br As the basketball bounces along the grey. br br Seven youths pant with parched throats, br Their feet shuffling past the littlest child. br The ball never passes to him br And he just stands out in the open, br Playful and riled. br br Finally, he scurries up to them br And manages to get his hands on the ball. br A group of spectators clap and call. br br One game of basketball br And a child shooting br Through a curved wire, br Connected to a rusted post, br Could be the will o' the wisp br Through life's mire. br br The ball slowly tumbles along the wire's edge br Then finally falls through the bend. br The little child jumps up and down br Then a missile falls, br Bringing the game to an end.br br K.
