sylvia spencer - Dressed for Dinner

I am only polished to a certain degree because I am br a table made of maghogany. I have extended ends that br fold, and I am proud to say I am two hundred years old. br When I am dressed for a function, I really am a winner br especially when there is an important dinner. br A pure white cloth made of linen and lace with crispy br white napkins to wipe your hands and face. Silver cutlery br that is as old as me and that also has to be polished to a br certain degree. br Goblets of crystal for water and wine, everything gleaming br and looking divine.Single stemmed roses in white china vases br reflecting on the chandelier and the clear crystal glasses. br Side plates made of Minton China, really I couldn't be br dressed any finer. br I have six fine chairs who just call me a table but everyone br has a place setting with a name on it's label. br There are two old carvers who have ball and claw feet br I cannot understand why, they are only a seat. Brass fitted br wheels they call a caster but they must be reserved for br the mistress and master, br The door is opened and in come the guests it's now time br for the servants to be at their best. br When dinner is over I am packed all away waiting to get br done up for another special day. br So on it goes from year to year with the same goodwill br and the same good cheer.
