Robert Charles Howard - Sipapu

Robert Charles Howard - Sipapu

At the third world's first sun, br the Anasazi climbed br through a portal they called Sipapu br and pressed footprints in the dust br of a new unspoiled universe. br br In secluded canyon hollows, br watered by softly chanting springs, br rocks rose upon stone br forming vast adobe cities br mortared with pastes of moistened clay. br br At Mesa Verde, Chaco and de Chelly br fields of maize swayed, br brushed by the canyon winds. br while the Pueblos danced in plazas below br to the throbbing beats br of skin-stretched hollow log drums. br br Today their distant offspring br circle fire pits in sacred Kivas br intoning chants and prayers br to their hallowed ancestors. br br Wearied by famine and conquest, br Pueblo eyes scan the heavens br searching for a new Sipapu - br a portal into a better world still.
