Alison Cassidy - Poets for Peace

Terrorism, Nazism, Fundamentalism br all fueled by literalism. br The cockroach must be ground underfoot br there is no need for remorse br because all that has been killed br is a cockroach, after all. br br The poet uses metaphor br to give space for otherness, br so the cockroach of the poet br is beyond cockroach - br it is father, son, lover, br doctor, teacher, factory worker. br If you kill this cockroach br you will feel remorse.
