Alexander Shaumyan - Old Poets Drink Café au Lait

Old poets drink café au lait, br While children snicker in the yard, br Saying that poetry is gay, br Deriding the pretentious bards. br br Old poets praise the charms of dames br With bouncy breasts and firm behinds, br While children laugh at their games br And see what's really on their minds. br br They laugh at what they learn in school br From reading all those lifeless scribes, br Who write like adolescent fools br Of their fabricated lives. br br The children smile and want to play, br They see the sunrise burning bright, br Old poets drink café au lait, br Not caring if it's day or night. br br For it's a sunny summer day, br The children laugh and jump with joy, br Old poets drink café au lait, br By children and their noise annoyed.
