Sidi J. Mahtrow - Earmarks

Sidi J. Mahtrow - Earmarks

Earmarks they're called by those that know br Are notches put in a pig's ear or perhaps rings in the nose. br Which are put there to draw attention br That this hog belongs to one of some station. br br Turned loose to run free at public expense br To feed outside the confines of a proper fence. br A rouge that is said to belong br To one of certain renown. br br Earmarks were once put in a legal register br So no one would confuse ownership (for worse or better) br But in the current day and time br Earmarks are put there for a reason more sublime. br br You'll never know who was responsible br Perhaps someone that should be culpable(?) br Yet they're called earmarks because br Now the object is to obscure ownership within the laws. br br Before earmarks were known by a title more correct, br Pork (as it was called) which did reflect, br That fat was mixed midst the lean br To flavor the pot of a politician it would seem, br So that he (or she if the case be) could claim br Ownership (after-all everyone does it) without shame. br br Yet now the pols of the hour br Making faces, most dour br Have proclaimed that they'll have nothing to do br With earmarks (well maybe only a few) . br And point their finger at those on the other side br Who surely have so much to hide. br br It's a game that the Hatfields and the McCoys did play br As they fought tooth and nail in their day, br Until they discovered that earmarks were good br As long as the 'record' was clearly understood. br And that someone else would pick up the bill br (Well isn't that the way things are done on the Hill?) br br Congratulations Ms. Nancy!br br Sidi J.
