Ben Paynter - for the little boy who makes me feel old

There’s a young little boy in the old town square br Who sits so quietly br And looks at the sun and the dust in the air br And he never smiles for me br br And if I could I would wish for that little boys face br To break into a grin br But it cant, and it wont, let the little boy pray br O lord let the smile win br br And his face is a cloud and his eyes are the rain br His hair a shade of night br And he bats at the smiles with an old mans cane br And wishes the stars weren’t bright br br And I’ve tried and I’ve tried and there’s others that tried br To open his eyes and his mouth br But for reasons unknown and reasons beside br His heart was the one stayed south br br And its south where I sit on many a day br On a bench by the river park br And I wish and I wish in horrible ways br For a single breath of dark br br And parts of me sit with that boy in the square br And they sit so quietly br And look at the sun and the dust in the air br And neither will smile for mebr br Ben Paynterbr br
