A silver ribbon of a road br threaded through vertical hills br a shallow creek sparkling cold br br Rainbow trout caught br with stick and sharpened nail br and fried in flour br br Blackberries everywhere br scratches and thorns br and purple fingers br br Beds with lumpy pillows br kettle whistling on the primus stove br slippery paper in the outside dunny br br Mum cutting kindling br with hatchet and determination br her face red and shining br br Dad cursing and swearing br installing the new gas lights br which hissed affectionately br br Saturday afternoons br straining to hear the Goons br on the radio which crackled br br Daily visit to the General store br with hand petrol pump and br milk in bottles and licorice straps br br The band rotunda br with memories of polished brass br before the gold dried up br br Torchlight journey through the long tunnel br a tiny circle of light br slowly growing bigger br br Exploring the old cemetery br with gumboots full of leeches br and sad inscriptions to little souls br br Walhalla - old ghost town br threatened by this year's fires br Thank God you escaped...
