Sidi J. Mahtrow - Ballad of 'The Judge'

Sidi J. Mahtrow - Ballad of 'The Judge'

All stood ‘round br The burying ground br Saying their goodbys. br Through misty tearful eyes. br br An old neighbor happened to stay br For he had something else to say. br As we looked around br The hallowed burying ground. br br Saying goodby isn't easy br Some say what will please ye, br While other's look away br Not looking you in the eye. br br For in this one gone to ground, br All had found br Life too short br For his kind to abort. br br The judge, who br Always seemed to know what to do. br Either for friend or foe br He always seemed to know. br br Never a hard word br From him was heard. br As he studied the event br Before making a carefully worded judgement. br br This one lingering here br Seemed intent to make his point clear. br Shuffling his feet to gain courage br He decided to make quick his charge. br br 'He and I never saw eye-to-eye, br Seemed he always could spot a lie br And yet never once used that as a point, br To his side, anoint.' br br 'He'll be gone fifty years from now br And it'll still be remembered how br He could always find a way br To bring reason to any day.' br br 'When I'm dead and gone br After the final song, br The crowd will drift away br And forget me forever on that very day.' br br 'I never thought of him as a friend br But on this day, I send br Him to his final resting place br Knowing the Judge will have no more trials to face.' br br His crooked cane from a briar br Stands in the corner - there br Waiting. If he comes back again br He'll surely have a tale to spin br And just like before, br He'll make his point and more br So another can see br That that's the way it should be. br br Albert to Mom, br Dad to the kids, br And 'Judge' to all.br br Sidi J.
