Jade Goody, the motormouth br invited back to Big Brother for br obvious reasons, who’s caused br world-wide repercussions for abusing br an equally cunningly chosen Muslim br of compassionate intellligence..so, controversy; br a troublesome flea in the charmpit of br the body politic.. br br oh, no - it’s a model who just looks like her, br advertising at huge expense, br Specsavers’ ‘Varifocal’ glasses… br br ah! that’s the word we need – br br varifocal… br br and aren’t we all? sometimes we focus br on the short-range, sometimes on the long; br Jade; TV producers; media; politicians; br motormouths the lot of us; one day br we hate the Muslims or the Christians next door, br and their perpetual cooking smells of curry br or of vinegared fish-and-chips; br next day we are on our varicultural best behaviour, br almost, but not quite, inviting them to eat with us; br it’s called freedom of speech, integration, democracy.. br br Even as I speak, varifocal editors of varifocal media br are preparing balanced feature articles by br varifocal feature writers entitled br ‘Jade Goody – true voice of Britain? ’ br and we’ll pour the milk on our breakfast fodder br and slip on our varifocals with the other hand.
