Gary Witt - An Agnostic's Prayer

Gary Witt - An Agnostic's Prayer

He said I confess that I doubt. br I want the truth and have no desire br To whisper prayerfully into a hole. br So, neither believing nor disbelieving, br I wrap myself in uncertainty br And go out to build my world. br br Besides, what is there br Truly to pray for br That Someone might answer? br For wisdom? br Strength? br Courage? br Peace? br These are all fine, worthy, and important things. br But I doubt (I confess that I doubt) br That any may be given or bestowed, br And suspect they must be earned and deserved. br br A prayer for Revelation? Perhaps. br But it seems a silly, presumptuous wish br To invite myself in with those called br And those chosen. br br Pray for forgiveness? Or maybe Redemption? br I have my regrets and I have much to learn. br But forgiveness is something I hope to give away br Freely, and not really something to seek. br br No, with humility, br Knowing (yes, knowing) br I'm just a speck br On this speck of a world, br I would ask Whomever may be, br That You do what is right, br In Your infinite wisdom, br As will I, the best that I can.
