David Taylor - Disintegrated Hearts

My three daughters came to see Daniel br He’s 20 months br Oh and of course me br Daniel hadn’t seen them for a while br They don’t live with br Daniel his Mum and I br Hugs and kisses all round. br br Daniel said, music dad br He often does br Takes my hand to the hifi br Frowns if I don’t comply br Daniel’s dancing now br Holds one ball against his chest br Another arm holds another ball br This one against his head br Gently he dances round br With his new lover br He just found br My daughter choking on her words br Says “Dad! That’s the cutest thing I ever saw” br And wipes some tears from her eyes br Opens them again and Daniel says br With actions not words br Throw the balls let’s play catch. br br We all get in the car to go. br Daniel stays with mum and waves goodbye br My three daughters very quiet br Still checking if they have br All the pieces to put back br Of their three disintegrated hearts br Caused not just by Daniel br But by families torn apart. br When I get back home br Daniel Says “Hi Dad” br Let's go to the Park.
