I asked My Beloved br br How may I know the secret br of being a perfect Sufi, br insan al-kamil, br a perfect Friend of God? br br My Beloved said br br You will never in your life be sure; br and that is just how it should be; br that way, you will be safe in Me; br br instead, seek always where My secret might be found: br as you walk, look closely at all of nature; br every flower, every tree, every lake, every cloud, br every bird, every animal; br look closely at them, to see br if they hold My secret; br br as you walk down the street, br look into the eyes of each human being br to see if they know My secret in their heart; br br listen to every sound and every word br in case My secret hides within them; br br or in the scent of roses, or in the taste of food; br br go to sleep with this question on your lips, br wake with this question in your mind; br br and though you will never find the answer, br one day the question shall cease to be a question br and become the song which you have always known.
