David Harris - I Met My Girl On The Other End Of My Penny Chew (Fun Poem 19)

Well, there I was in the candy store, br choosing my candy from the counter. br In she walked wings on her feet, br and her head, way up in the clouds. br I grabbed up a penny chew, br before I could even get the wrapper off, br she was on the other end of it. br I looked down my nose; br all I could see were teeth, br and two big eyeballs looking at me. br br Well, there I was looking at what I had hooked, br the fish kept wriggling in front of me. br When along she came bold as brass, br and stood right there beside me. br I grabbed up a penny chew, br before I could even get the wrapper off, br she was on the other end of it. br I looked down my nose; br all I could see were teeth, br and two big eyeballs looking at me. br br Well, I had had enough by now, br so I asked her to marry me. br Those big eyeballs rolled around, br and the teeth said, “Yes please.” br So here we are on our wedding night, br all tucked up in bed and I looked, br not a penny chew in sight.
