Ben Gieske - Raking Is Fun

Ben Gieske - Raking Is Fun

raking with the breezes br as long as it pleases br just a patch with no boundaries or limits set br maybe from that rose bush br newly decked in its spring green or br from where the grass begins its brown br br Raking is fun with lots of company, br wild onions clumping all around, br the daffodil hugging the Maple tree, br waving its hands excitedly, br a neighbor’s cat huddled by the edge of the hedge contentedly, br the happy bird somewhere in the tree, br the tendrils of ivy crawling out and playing tag with me. br br Raking is fun, br freeing violet blooms from winter’s blanket, br gathering rows of grass, twigs, and leaves br and all of autumn’s leftovers, br scooping them up and letting them sift and br drift into the bin, br crunching them down, crunching them down br into the big recycling bin. br br The neighbors passing by might wonder why br What’s with the patch? br not knowing what fun ranking can be br in the sun with breezes while it pleases. br br With the rake hanging on its peg, br finally laid to rest, br the breezes some day will welcome me br free from all boundaries br and we will play again.
