Dónall Dempsey - Enough To Make A Moon Laugh(poem for Scarlett)

Old piano br in the tumbledown shed br br cobwebs br stretch from note to note. br br I laugh to see br a kitten on its keys br br composing a spooky music br all its own. br br Even the moon br gets the joke br br and laughs at its reflection br in a lopsided rusty rain barrel. br br Time is only br the wind in the trees. br br I remember your hand br on these keys br br a bright sunny day br that seemed forever br br light years away from here. br br Your fingers calling music br into being br br some sad unseen br br that seemed to sense br br a future time br br where cobwebs br would hold the music captive br br spiders spinning br from note br to note br br weaving what is to come br br br ...what is...past. br br br Now only this frisky kitty br makes music with its every move br br startling itself br with incredulity br br that every step is a note br br completely baffled br by its new found musicality. br br It's enough to make a moon br laugh. br br I cry.
