Robert Rorabeck - Awaken Me

Robert Rorabeck - Awaken Me

Where do those eyes fall br That will one day fall on me? br Where does the head lay that br Will in time lie beside mine? br Where do the lips breathe which br Will tomorrow press again my neck br To say my name sweetly br Like the first evidence of Spring? br br Not in this misplaced season, br Where the stamp of pain lays justified br Upon my heart, br In these cold evenings where my body br Numbs in loneliness, br So that I cry out in feeble words br Like some ancient wounded thing br In the sorrowful hollows of its everlasting cave— br br Come to me now through the br Swirling limbo of these timeless mountains. br Like a golden fairytale part these dispassionate br Curtains of the darkest loneliness, br And lay the direction of your soul upon me br Awakening me with a kiss conducted by your eyes. br With warm hands enfolding, br Show me the evidence of God, br And after all this time I will come alive again br And fuse with you in the brightest burning br So that after we are gone, br Like some stars now above, br Our passion will leave its glow as evidence br For many years onward.
