Margaret Everard - The Tell-Tale Heart

Margaret Everard - The Tell-Tale Heart

I once knew a man with a vulturous eye br I hated it so much that he had to die, br I crept to his room every night, br Always being sure to make no light br But that terrible deed couldn't be done by me br 'Till that vulturous eye, I could see. br And then, as I crept to his room one night, br My hand slipped-Oh what a plight! br br I waited for hours br And my thoughts, they grew sour br As I saw that vultourous eye br My opportunity arrived! That man would die br He let out just one shriek br And then submitted, ever so meek br I hid him under the floorboards there, br the boards arranged so not worse for wear br br Then, hark! The police came br I tried my best to act the same br But, alas, my will and destiny did part br And I was given up by the tell-tale beating of my heart.
