jan oskar hansen - autumn leaf

Autumn Leaf. br br The fall leaves dance weren’t celebrating life, br but utter despair, they whirled around in br the plaza like furious dervishes, faster and br faster till they ended up, exhausted, in a heap br in the corner, near the bin, for empty bottles. br br A thunder rumble, warning of rain to come, br gutters will be rivers and leaves rafts, steering br around boulders down foamy waterfalls and br into the sewers, where the outcast rat lives and br witness our gaseous effluence. br br Turning into mulch, mixed with human waste; br perfect nourishment free of chemicals, perhaps br a gardeners dream? A golden oak leaf survived, br the tumult, though, drifted to the Saragossa Sea br where it became a king amongst the seaweed.
