Yen Cress - On Passing Through Death Valley in November

Yen Cress - On Passing Through Death Valley in November

I stood in the vast, silent desert, br Alone, on a winter-bleak night; br Around me the wind blew so fiercely br The stars cast a shimmering light. br br The sagebrush and chaparral murmured br In whispers of ghost-swirling sand. br A platinum half-moon crept upward br Past hillocks the sharp wind had fanned. br br My arms I raised upward to heaven. br Bright starpoints spread out on display br Like pinholes in blue velvet curtains br That cover the window of day. br br I wondered how people imagine br Such glory could happen by chance. br Can't they see the Creator's great wisdom? br His hand made this wondrous expanse! br br I threw back my head to the vision br And gulped in the sharp-silky air. br Mere moments I stood in the desert br But eons passed while I was there.
