' br The answer was succinct and like the colour grey. br 'As well as can be expected, Sir', br 'Our casualties? ' the King enquired. br 'Considerable, Sir.' br 'Oh? ' was all the King could say. br br Meanwhile at the Somme, br their bodies soaked in mud, and blood and rain, br 420,000 unsung heroes died.
