Ernestine Northover - Disbelieving

Ernestine Northover - Disbelieving

The heavy rain has come, and like a vibrating drum, br beats down with such an endless force. br And just about everything it meets, it’s engulfing, br with its unlimited water source. br br It’s running steadily through, the autumn leaves that queue, br along the red brick garden wall. br Dripping incessantly away, from branches stark and grey, br drops glinting as they gently fall. br br The drains they block and spill, and very quickly fill, br the silted gutters flowing fast. br Brimming rivers too outgrow their banks, and overflow, br and clouds dip low and hang downcast. br br Then suddenly I stare, disbelieving what’s out there, br something that was so unforeseen. br All across the open ground, I see a wonderland snowbound, br laying where the fusillade has been.
