konye ori - Crying 'Africa'

konye ori - Crying 'Africa'

Once the color of the night, br graced in starry skies br br The full moon left little to wonder br of the morning sunrise br Then we were singing “Africa.” br br But lightning flashes struck our clouds br and raging thunders burst open br the sky and let the rains pour. br br Now, we are flooded in austerity; we flow br scrambling for support, br tramping over one another for a gasp. br br The current of diseases and hunger br washes us away. We slop in the br tides of corruption and as we are washed, br we flounder and we cry “Africa.” br br Shivering like sparrows in winter br we are thrown from side to side br like trees, dancing unwillingly to br the music of the wind br br Bruised on rocks and stunted tree roots br As we drift helplessly in the flood; br Choking, wailing, crying “Africa.
