Francis Duggan - Death Of A Mouse

Francis Duggan - Death Of A Mouse

As i stood in phone booth by Swansea road br The sky was dark though street lights brightly glowed br And those street lights lit the busy motorway br And i could see as if it were bright day. br br On highway edge a small mouse did appear br From out the phone booth i could see him 'clear' br A little creature scarce an inch in height br 'Methought' he'll die by motor wheel tonight. br br But i was wrong he'd die by Nature's law br A bird dropped down clasped mouse in killer claw br And at first glance i thought this has to be an owl br Or kindred type of night bird on the prowl. br br But for an owl he had too small a face br And he belong to hawk or harrier race br Ten foot from me the cars roared to and fro br And he seemed quite frightened unsure where to go. br br A lull in traffic he upped and flew away br To nearby tree to safely eat his prey br And leave me to ponder on what i did see br Beneath that street lamp seven yards from me.
